Song of the Week: JLM "For Today"

This weeks SOTW is Jessica Lea Mayfield's "For Today"

I think this song for several reasons...

1- I love JLM! She's so talented! Her entire album is great!

2- Her lyrics depict real feelings felt by girls about boys unlike many female singers of today.

3- The main reason I love this song is because it's like a big slap in the face to a guy! The lyrics start out very sweet and make you think you're listening to a song about falling in love with someone... "and i stared at the sky while you kissed me" and "you were running away away from everything and i stayed behind so you'd miss me" and then you hear the chorus "and while these words may sound so sweet i could care less about you."

It's kind of like your watching a movie of a couple holding hands skipping through a field of daisys when suddenly one of them falls into a manhole while the other grins and skips off.

It's great! I'd like to dedicate this song to a few different guys!

Dan Auerbach is a God! Pt 2

I haven't been a very good music blogger... I promise to get better! :)

I went to see Dan Auerbach last night along with Jessica Lea Mayfield and Justin Townes Earle. It was a phenomenal show!

Jessica Lea Mayfield opened with one of my favorites "Kiss Me Again."

She played a lot of great songs from her album "With Blasphemy so Heartfelt" including Bible Days (where the album title came from), Greater Heights, and a Buddy Holly cover. She didn't play my favorite The One That I Love Best but she amazing anyways!

Best part was when she rocked out on her brother David's bass (not sure exactly what that instrument is called...I didn't pay attention in grade school music class)

Next up was Justin Townes Earle. I had never heard his music before this night but I'm a fan now! He's kind of a country/rock/blue grass hybrid! Or what I like to call "A Boot Stomping Good Time" :)

Fun Fact(s): Justin Townes Earle is the son of musician Steve Earle and was named after the late great Townes Van Zandt! (being named after Townes has to make him cool right?)

Then came Dan Auerbach (and the Fast Five of course!)

They played all the songs from Keep It Hid and did a cover of The Aminals "Inside Looking Out" that rocked my face off! They also did a song that I think was called "Oh Carol, I'm Sad" that was amazing!

I have to say I was very dissapointed in the Nasvhille crowd! Music City? More like bumps on logs! I was in the "2nd row" and the entire front row on the barrier just stood there the ENTIRE time! They didn't even nod their head to the beat... If it weren't for some drunk girls next to me I would have been the only one in my area dancing along! I'm pretty sure the crowd towards the back was into it though... I heard a lot of screaming coming from back there!

Female Fan: Dan I wanna have sex with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dan: Not in front of all these people. Maybe later baby!

He ended the show by himself with "Goin' Home" which sounded beautiful. (of course)

I managed to capture a pretty good quality video of "When the Night Comes" which is quite possibly one of the most beautiful songs EVER!

It was an amazing show once I stopped letting the shitty crowd hold me back from getting into it!

Everyone should love Dan!
